The Discovery and Rise of Neon
Neon’s story begins in 1898 when British chemists Sir William Ramsay and Morris W. Travers discovered the gas. They quickly learned that running an electric current through a glass tube filled with neon produced a brilliant reddish-orange light. This discovery laid the foundation for neon lighting, and by the 1920s, neon tubes were being used in attention-grabbing signs and displays. Neon quickly spread from car dealerships to the now-famous neon billboards of Times Square, New York.

Unlike traditional neon, which relies on a gas-filled tube, neon LED uses semiconductors and electroluminescence to create a similar lighting effect.
